Thomas Partey is reportedly set to leave Arsenal when his contract expires on June 30, 2025. Official confirmation of the midfielder’s departure is expected soon from the club.
Contract extension talks had been ongoing since April, but both parties failed to find common ground regarding the terms. Partey was a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad during the 2024/2025 season, featuring in 52 matches across all competitions. Nevertheless, Arsenal has decided to move in a new direction. The club is nearing the completion of a transfer for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and is also negotiating with Brentford over the signing of Christian Norgaard.
In the meantime, FC Barcelona views this situation as a golden opportunity to strengthen their midfield without the need for a significant financial outlay. Partey’s background in La Liga, having played for Atletico Madrid, could make his transition to the Catalan club smoother. With his defensive skills, he could certainly provide tactical benefits to Hansi Flick in specific matches.
Reports suggest that the player himself is open to the idea of joining Barcelona. The Ghanaian international is keen to continue competing at the highest level, and a move to the Spanish giants would be an excellent chance to do so.
